NEW HOODIE ALERT!!!!!!
About the design:
Our family came from Okinawa. We moved here in 1995 - I (Asuka), especially, always felt deeply rooted in the islands culture. It was difficult moving to the new country and not knowing where my community and new family was to be found. I felt homesick and lost. It wasn’t until Kazaxé when I found home again - and I handmade this design (4 months of redrawing a million times), because it would mean so much to me for you to rep the strength and spirit of my island bc you share so much with me from all the different places you come from. It’s amazing how abundant with diversity the DMV is - we are so lucky and I feel beyond blessed that we gather on the regular to celebrate and dance together.
Shisa, the mystical lion dogs, are found on just about every rooftop around the island and has its origins in Chinese and Korean history. Okinawa, was a major trading port and our culture is a mix of many cultures near by, a big mix, like our Kaza family. The shisa comes in pairs, one with the mouth closed to keep the good energy in, and one with the mouth open (as you see in this design) to scare bad energy away. We hope that in wearing it, you are protected and strengthened.
Thank you for being a home for our family and thank you for now making a giant crazy family together - you remind me of how blessed we are to have such a diverse beautiful family to share, heal, laugh, cry and dance with. #kazaxe #dmv #family #okinawa #strengthofculture #mixedfamily #culturesharing #shisa #iloveyou #onecrazyfamily #home #replove #repitup
